JULIE CORMAN, Group Fitness Instructor
Julie Corman started her career as a fitness instructor at the age of 56 after retiring from 30 years at Metro Transit. She comes from a competitive swimming background, where in 1985 she held the world record for her age group in the 100m backstroke. She has raced triathlons and has completed two Ironmen competitions, including qualifying for and completing the world championships in Hawaii in 2006. She holds both Les Mills and American Council on Exercise certifications.
Julie combines her extensive training expertise with a light-hearted teaching style that makes learning proper training techiniques fun. She emphasizes correct form and protocol so that her students can learn how to avoid injury, train efficiently and (in her tongue and cheek manner) “look cool at whatever they’re doing”. She is highly experienced in planning a full year’s fitness program based upon the principals of periodization training and shares this knowledge with her students as they move from season to season.
Favorite hobbies, interests and sports:
“I enjoy swimming, biking, walking and spending time with family and friends. Each year I spend a “training” month in Hawaii, where I train in the morning by sitting out by the pool reading books and working crosswords, then drink Pina Coladas in the afternoon.”
Favorite movies/books:
“I love the Janet Evanovich ‘Stephanie Plum’ series – so irreverent.”
People might be surprised to know:
“When I was a kid we lived in a barn; horses and cows downstairs, my family and the hayloft upstairs.”
Favorite saying, quote or motto:
“Life is good.”
